Puccini created refined and soulful work on this basis, putting in the center of composition the tragic fracture of the fate of Floria Tosca - the famous singer and the most beautiful woman of Rome. Fascinated by the "divine Bernard", Puccini wrote: "I think of “Tosca!" It is in "Tosca" that I see an opera for myself - not excessive size, not a splendid performance this is not the plot that could give place to the usual musical excess." In his drama, Sardou succumbed to the fashion for historical subjects and turned to the events that actually took place in Italy in 1800. But eleven years earlier, the thirty-year-old composer saw the great tragic actress of France Sarah Bernhardt in “Tosca”, a play based on the play of their contemporary French playwright Victor Sardou. The premiere of the opera “Tosca” took place on Januin Rome at the Kostanci Theater.
